Nutanix Hardware Video Overview

This is a great video from Nutanix, providing an overview of Nutanix Hardware, NX-1050, NX-3050 and NX-3060 Series.

With hyper-converged really coming to the forefront of tech in 2016, many people still have a problem with the concept. Also space being saved within a rack, when removing the normal 3 tier architecture that is still common in many Enterprises.

Nutanix Capacities

Nutanix capacities can be someone difficult to calculate, but one clever person has developed a Nutanix Calculator, which isn’t by Nutanix and the information should not be deemed as 100% accurate, but it does give a clear idea what a set of Nutanix node, in a single cluster can provide.

For example, a Nutanix Discovery Cluster, comprising of 6 Nodes, uses only 4U or rack space and provides nearly 25TB of space, protected, using their redundancy factor of 2 and allowing for one node to fail.

Don’t forget, you would also get 12x Intel 8 Core Processors and up to 6,144GB Memory in that 6 node cluster, using only 4U of rack space.

At a recent Nutanix Event, one customer, who hadn’t virtualised their infrastructure, went from 18x 42U racks, to just 2x 42U Racks. Even those 2x 42U racks were only a quarter populated.

Just on space saving alone, money can be saved by reducing your rack footprint if you are using a Co-Lo Data Centre. Also you can boast about your ‘Green’ savings, reducing down your electrical needs is always a way to promote your businesses green credentials and also provide a real saving to your company.

If you are nearing a time to look at replacing your old storage, or need some compute and storage for a new project, or you are just plain fed up with having to manage storage, Fibre Channel Switches and all the other bits and piece, then you won’t go far wrong at looking at Nutanix.
